Spartans Peewee Majors Heading Back to The "Q"
2009-12-29
The Spartans will attended the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament for the 6th year in a row.The Seacoast Spartans 97 Elites received great news just before Christmas; they will once again be heading to Quebec City in February to attend the most prestigious youth hockey tournament in the world, the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament.
The tournament is held in Quebec City from February 11-21 with over 120 teams and typically 17-18 different countries represented. The tournament is run in conjunction with the Quebec City Winter Carnival and is tremendously supported by the city of Quebec. Over the 11-day event there are usually over 250,000 spectators that attend the games at the 15,000 seat Colisee Pepsi. Over the last six years at the event, it is not uncommon for the Spartans Peewees to play in front a crowds of 5,000-6,000. In 2007 our 94 Peewee Majors made it to the BB finals with over 10,000 fans in attendance.
Unfortunately, there is a major financial burden on the familes to attend the "Q". Staying 8-11 days in Quebec City costs each family on average about $3,000. The Spartans families as well as many others in the hockey community have always supported our Peewee Team's "trip of a lifetime". Hopefully, that support will continue this year for our 97s.
